Garage Doors in Stanford-le-Hope

Stanford-le-Hope grew in stages, and its garages show it. The older streets have single garages with the original up-and-over door still hanging in them, while the newer estates on the edge of the town have square, often double-width integral garages. We replace both with made-to-measure insulated electric roller doors that run straight up into a compact top box. Free on-site survey, fixed written quote, fitted by our own team from Sible Hedingham, about an hour away.

Roller Garage Doors in Stanford-le-Hope

A roller garage door answers both halves of Stanford-le-Hope. On an older single garage it removes the swing-out problem of a tired up-and-over, so you can park right up to the door. On a newer integral garage it keeps the ceiling and the full height of the opening clear, because the curtain rolls vertically into a compact top box rather than running back on tracks over your head.

Every RollRite door is made to measure from foam-filled aluminium slats with an insulated core, which gives thermal performance, strength and quiet electric operation. The made-to-measure part earns its keep in this town: an older opening under a timber lintel is rarely still square, and a stock size door will not sit in it properly. Manual override is included on every door and the motor runs from a standard 13-amp socket.

Two slat profiles cover the whole town. The 55mm profile takes standard single openings up to 2.6 metres wide, and the 77mm profile takes wider openings up to about 5 metres, which is where the double-width garages on the new estates land. Either can be specified as a full electric package with remote control operation, a safety edge and automatic locking, while the two entry packages are external key switch only.

55mm Roller Doors

Compact Insulated Doors for Single Garages

The 55mm slat profile is the answer on the older part of Stanford-le-Hope, where a detached or side-attached single garage usually measures comfortably under 2.6 metres across. High-density 12.5mm foam-filled aluminium slats give insulation and quiet running, and the shallow top box helps on an older garage where the headroom above the opening was never generous to begin with.

  • Foam-filled aluminium slats with a 12.5mm high-density core
  • Standard single openings up to 2.6 metres wide
  • From £1,275 inc VAT fitted with external key switch, from £1,475 inc VAT with remote control
  • Up to 23 colours including ivory, cream, slate grey and golden oak woodgrain

77mm Roller Doors

Heavy-Duty Doors for Wider Openings

The 77mm slat profile uses thicker 18mm insulated aluminium slats and is the right answer for the double-width integral garages on the newer estates, where the extra rigidity across the span is what you are paying for. Because the open ground toward the river leaves that side of the town exposed, the better wind resistance is worth having on a wide opening. A five metre wide 77mm door is typically around £3,000 inc VAT, fully fitted.

  • Thicker 18mm insulated slats for rigidity across a wide span
  • Double-width and wider openings up to about 5 metres
  • Better wind resistance on openings exposed toward the estuary
  • From £1,790 inc VAT, fitted with remote control operation

About Stanford-le-Hope

Stanford-le-Hope is a town in Thurrock, in south Essex, on the north side of the Thames, with Corringham adjoining it. London Gateway, the deep-water container port, sits on the Thames close to the town. The novelist Joseph Conrad lived in the area in the 1890s, when the place was a good deal smaller than it is now.

The town grew in stages rather than all at once, and you can still read those stages on the ground: an older village core, a substantial band of interwar and post-war housing around it, and a large amount of recent estate building on the edges. Each stage built its garages to the fashion of its day, which is why two houses in the same town can need completely different doors. Thurrock Council is the local authority.

RollRite serve homeowners across Stanford-le-Hope and the wider Essex area with professional roller garage doors in Essex. Whether you live in a period property or a modern development, our made-to-measure doors are built to fit any opening.

What Stanford-le-Hope Garages Are Like

The older housing gives us one kind of job. It is a detached or side-attached single garage, very often with the original up-and-over door still on it, sometimes with a timber lintel and an opening that has moved slightly over the decades. Those get measured properly at the survey rather than assumed, because a few millimetres out of square at the head of the opening changes how the guide runners have to be set.

The newer estates are the opposite case. The garages are integral, inside the house footprint, the openings are square and the brickwork is sound, and they are frequently double width, which is where the heavier profile is the right answer for the rigidity across the span. If you are weighing the two up, our guide to 55mm and 77mm slats sets out where each one stops making sense.

One more thing about those newer houses: the garage is very often used as storage rather than for a car. That makes an insulated curtain more relevant than people expect, because the door is the biggest opening in the room and it is where most of the draught comes from. With the town close to the estuary and the ground toward the river open, wind loading is worth a thought on a wide opening as well.

Roller Garage Door FAQs - Stanford-le-Hope

How much does a roller garage door cost in Stanford-le-Hope?

A fully fitted 55mm roller door starts at £1,275 with external key switch operation and manual override, or £1,325 for the 12.5mm slat version. Remote control operation with a safety edge starts at £1,475. The double-width integral garages on the newer estates need the 77mm profile, which starts at £1,790, and a five metre wide 77mm door is typically around £3,000 fully fitted. Any colour other than white adds a flat £100 and an extra remote is £40. All prices include VAT. The free survey turns that into a fixed written quote for your opening.

Will a roller door fit an older garage that still has an up-and-over door on it?

Usually yes. We need roughly 75mm clear each side of the opening for the guide runners and 205mm to 300mm of headroom above it for the top box. Older garages in the town sometimes have a timber lintel and an opening that has moved slightly over the decades, so we measure on site rather than working from a standard size, and the door is then made to what we found. The old door is removed and taken away as part of the installation, and most single garages are finished in one visit.

I have a double-width integral garage on a new estate. Which profile do I need?

The 77mm profile. Its 18mm insulated slats hold their shape across a wide span far better than the thinner 55mm curtain, so we specify it on double openings rather than stretching the smaller profile to do a job it was not built for. It covers openings up to about 5 metres. The ground toward the river is open and exposed, and a wide curtain catches more wind than a single, so the stronger profile is worth the difference here. Fitted prices start at £1,790 inc VAT with remote control operation.

Our garage is used for storage rather than the car. Is an insulated door worth it?

More often than people expect. The door is the biggest opening in the room, so it is where most of the draught comes from, and a foam-filled slat with an insulated core changes how the space feels if you are keeping a freezer, a workshop or a gym in there. It will not turn a garage into a heated room on its own, because the floor and the walls are still what they are, but it takes out the worst of the cold air coming straight through the door.

Do I need planning permission for a roller garage door in Stanford-le-Hope?

In most cases no. Replacing an existing garage door normally falls under permitted development, so no application is needed. If the property is listed or sits in a conservation area, check with Thurrock Council before you order, because the colour and finish can matter in those cases. The great majority of the garages we fit in the town are on the estate housing and the newer developments, where this does not arise. We will mention it at the free survey if we think it applies to your property.
