Automatic Garage Doors in Benfleet

Benfleet is a town of bungalows, chalets and family semis, and most of them come with a garage built for a far smaller car than anyone drives now. We replace tired up-and-over and manual doors with made-to-measure automatic roller doors: powder coated aluminium that shrugs off the estuary air, opens straight up and takes no room on the drive. Free on-site survey, fixed written quote, fitted by our own team from Sible Hedingham, about 55 minutes away.

Fully Fitted Roller Garage Doors Benfleet

Roller garage doors are the ideal choice for Benfleet homeowners where driveway space is limited or ceiling height inside the garage needs to stay clear. The curtain rolls vertically into a compact top box, leaving the full width and height of the opening available for access.

Every Rollrite roller door is made to measure using foam-filled aluminium slats with an insulated core. This provides thermal performance, strength and quiet electric operation. The motor, remote controls, safety edge and manual override are all included as standard.

We offer two slat profiles to suit different garage sizes. The 55mm profile is designed for standard single openings up to 2.6 metres wide, while the 77mm profile handles wider or more exposed openings up to 5 metres. Both come with a full electric package, including two remote controls, a safety edge and automatic locking.

About Benfleet

Benfleet sits on the north side of the Thames estuary in the Borough of Castle Point, where Benfleet Creek separates the mainland from Canvey Island. It is really two places in one: South Benfleet, the old village down by the creek with the medieval church of St Mary the Virgin and the bridge across to Canvey, and Thundersley on the higher ground to the north. The history runs deep here: back in the 890s a Saxon army stormed the Viking camp at Benfleet during Alfred the Great's wars with the Danes.

Benfleet station is on the c2c line into London Fenchurch Street, and it was the railway that turned farmland into the suburb you see today: street after street of interwar and post-war bungalows, chalet homes and semis, with newer infill around Thundersley and New Thundersley. On the doorstep are the Benfleet Downs, open grassland running along the creek towards Hadleigh Castle, with Hadleigh Country Park and the site of the London 2012 Olympic mountain bike course just to the east.

Rollrite serve homeowners across Benfleet and the wider Essex area with professional automatic roller garage doors in Essex, made to measure for everything from a 1930s bungalow garage to a modern integral double.

Local Knowledge

What Benfleet Garages Are Usually Like

Around Benfleet the garage is often fifty years older than the car parked in front of it. The bungalows and chalet homes that fill South Benfleet and Thundersley mostly come with a narrow single garage, either attached at the side or standing at the end of the drive, built when 2.1 to 2.4 metres of width was plenty. Openings like that are exactly what the 55mm slat is for, and because the curtain rolls into a compact box above the opening, the tight headroom under a flat garage roof usually stops being a problem rather than becoming one.

The estuary is the other thing that shapes the choice. Down towards the creek the air carries salt, which is why so many timber doors around South Benfleet look tired and why bare steel does not last. Powder coated aluminium is the sensible answer: the foam-filled slats will not swell, stick or rust, and the finish keeps its colour. Up on the higher ground around Thundersley, and anywhere facing the open grass of the Downs, wind matters more than salt, so for wider or exposed openings the thicker 77mm slat is the better call. Our guide to 55mm versus 77mm slats covers the trade-off in detail.

Drives here are usually short, and on the sloping roads of Thundersley they can be steep as well, so an up-and-over door that swings outward wastes the most useful parking space you have. An automatic roller door opens vertically and lets you park hard against it. Replacing an existing door is normally permitted development; if your home is listed or sits in the old village around St Mary's church, a quick word with Castle Point Borough Council settles it, and we flag anything we spot at the free survey. All the door needs from the house is a standard 13-amp socket.

Roller Garage Door FAQs - Benfleet

How much does an automatic garage door cost in Benfleet?

A fully installed automatic roller garage door in Benfleet typically comes in between £1,275 and £4,000. The narrow single garages that sit beside the area's many bungalows and chalet homes usually fall in the lower half of that range, while wider double openings in Thundersley and on the newer developments sit higher. The free survey measures your opening and the written quote is fixed.

Will the estuary air damage an automatic roller door?

It is the right question to ask in Benfleet, because the salt carried in off the creek and the Thames estuary is hard on timber doors and bare steel. Our slats are foam-filled aluminium with a powder coated finish: aluminium does not rust, the slats cannot swell or warp like timber, and the finish holds its colour in coastal air. An occasional rinse with plain water is all the curtain and guides need.

Will a roller door fit a Benfleet bungalow garage?

Usually, yes. A lot of garages here were built alongside interwar and post-war bungalows for far smaller cars, so the openings are narrow and headroom under a flat roof can be tight. A roller door needs roughly 75mm clear either side and between 205mm and 300mm above the opening, and because the curtain rolls into a compact box rather than sliding back on ceiling tracks, the space inside the garage stays usable.

Do you cover Thundersley, Hadleigh and Canvey Island?

Yes. For us Benfleet means the whole area: South Benfleet, Thundersley and New Thundersley, plus Hadleigh and Canvey Island over the bridge, and across to Rayleigh and Basildon. The team travel from Sible Hedingham, roughly 55 minutes away, and the free survey works exactly the same wherever you are.

Which slat profile suits an exposed Benfleet opening?

Parts of Benfleet are genuinely exposed: the higher ground around Thundersley and anywhere facing the open grass of the Downs catch the wind coming up off the estuary. For a standard single opening up to 2.6 metres the 55mm slat is normally right. For wider openings up to 5 metres, or a door that faces the weather head on, the thicker 18mm slats of the 77mm profile give noticeably better wind resistance.
