About Rayleigh
Rayleigh is a market town in the Rochford district of Essex with a population of around 32,000, making it the largest town in the district. It sits between Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea, roughly 32 miles east of central London. The town is best known for Rayleigh Castle, an early Norman motte and bailey fortress whose earthworks are still clearly visible today. Rayleigh Windmill, fully restored with four storeys of displays, is another popular landmark and educational attraction.
Rayleigh railway station provides Greater Anglia services on the Shenfield to Southend line, with direct trains to London Liverpool Street. The high street offers a good mix of independent shops, cafes and national retailers. Housing ranges from Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre to modern family estates on the outskirts, many with private driveways and garages well suited to roller door installations.
