Automatic Garage Doors in Basildon

Basildon was built as a New Town from 1949 onwards, so whole neighbourhoods went up to the same plans and the garages repeat street after street: narrow singles, many of them in blocks set back from the houses. We replace their ageing manual and up-and-over doors, across Basildon, Laindon, Pitsea and Vange, with made-to-measure automatic roller doors that glide straight up into a compact box. Free on-site survey, fixed written quote, fitted by our own team from Sible Hedingham, roughly 50 minutes away.

Fully Fitted Roller Garage Doors Basildon

Roller garage doors are the ideal choice for Basildon homeowners where driveway space is limited or ceiling height inside the garage needs to stay clear. The curtain rolls vertically into a compact top box, leaving the full width and height of the opening available for access.

Every Rollrite roller door is made to measure using foam-filled aluminium slats with an insulated core. This provides thermal performance, strength and quiet electric operation. The motor, remote controls, safety edge and manual override are all included as standard.

We offer two slat profiles to suit different garage sizes. The 55mm profile is designed for standard single openings up to 2.6 metres wide, while the 77mm profile handles wider or more exposed openings up to 5 metres. Both come with a full electric package, including two remote controls, a safety edge and automatic locking.

About Basildon

Basildon is one of the biggest towns in south Essex, around 27 miles east of central London and 11 miles south of Chelmsford, with a population of about 116,000. It is one of the original post-war New Towns, designated in 1949 to rehouse London families, and it absorbed the older communities of Laindon, Pitsea and Vange as it grew. Much of that land had been plotland: self-built bungalows on strips of farmland sold off cheaply from the late Victorian years onwards, a story kept alive at the Langdon nature reserve on the western edge of town. The centre that replaced it holds the Eastgate Shopping Centre, the open-air East Walk, the Towngate Theatre and the 1960s Brooke House tower standing over the Town Square.

The town earns its living as well as commutes. Tractors have been built here since Ford opened its plant in 1964, today under the New Holland name, and Ford's Dunton technical centre sits on the western edge. Three stations, Basildon, Laindon and Pitsea, run c2c services directly into London Fenchurch Street. Gloucester Park holds the Basildon Sporting Village with its Olympic-sized pool and athletics track, and Wat Tyler Country Park at Pitsea reaches down towards the creeks. Housing runs from the first corporation neighbourhoods at Fryerns and Barstable through to modern private estates, with regeneration ongoing across several parts of the borough.

Rollrite serve homeowners across Basildon and the wider Essex area with professional automatic roller garage doors in Essex. From corporation-built terraces to the newest private estates, every door is made to measure for the opening you actually have.

Local Knowledge

What Basildon Garages Are Usually Like

Basildon's garages follow the plan the town was built to. The Development Corporation put up whole neighbourhoods at a time, Fryerns and Barstable first in the 1950s, then on through Vange and Pitsea, and the garages repeat street after street: narrow singles built for the small family cars of the day, usually with a manual up-and-over door on the front. Openings that tight suit the 55mm slat, which fits inside a compact box and still leaves the full width and height of the opening clear.

The other Basildon habit is the garage court. Many corporation-era streets were laid out with the cars kept apart from the houses, so the garage sits in a block or court set back from the street rather than at the end of a drive. A door there stands unwatched for most of the day, which is why automatic locking and a curtain with no outside handle matter more here than in most towns: our guide on how secure roller garage doors are covers this in detail. The same blocks were often never wired, and an automatic door only needs a standard 13-amp socket, so we check for power at the survey and say plainly if it is missing.

The picture changes on the newer estates built from the late 1970s onwards, Noak Bridge on the northern edge and the developments around Langdon Hills among them. There the garage is usually integral or attached, the openings run wider and doubles are common, which is where the 77mm slat earns its keep: thicker 18mm slats, better wind resistance on the high ground at Langdon Hills, and strength for openings up to 5 metres. An insulated curtain also makes a real difference on an integral garage, because the door is effectively part of the house.

Roller Garage Door FAQs - Basildon

How much does an automatic garage door cost in Basildon?

A fully installed automatic roller garage door in Basildon typically comes in between £1,275 and £4,000. The narrow corporation-built singles in neighbourhoods like Fryerns and Barstable usually sit in the lower half of that range, while the wider double openings on newer estates such as Noak Bridge and the developments around Langdon Hills sit higher. The free survey measures your opening and the written quote is fixed.

Will a roller door fit a standard Basildon new town garage?

Almost always. The Development Corporation built its garages to a consistent, narrow spec, so the openings are tight and headroom is short. A roller door needs roughly 75mm clear either side and between 205mm and 300mm above the opening, and because the curtain rolls into a compact box rather than swinging out or running back on ceiling tracks, you keep the full height of the opening and the whole ceiling.

My garage is in a block away from the house. Can it still have an electric door?

Yes, provided there is power. An automatic roller door runs off a standard 13-amp socket, but the detached garage blocks and courts that serve many of Basildon's corporation-era streets were often never wired. We check for a supply at the free survey and tell you before you order, not on installation day. Every door also includes a manual override, so you are never locked out if the power fails.

Do you cover Laindon, Pitsea and Vange?

Yes. All three are part of the town and we treat them exactly as we do central Basildon, along with Langdon Hills, Noak Bridge and Bowers Gifford, and across to Wickford and Billericay. The team travel from Sible Hedingham, roughly 50 minutes away, and carry out surveys and installations in the Basildon area regularly.

Is an automatic roller door secure enough for a garage that is out of sight?

It is one of the stronger options for exactly that situation. The curtain is made of interlocking aluminium slats with no handle or lock barrel on the outside face, and the motor locks the door automatically every time it closes. For garages in Basildon's courts and blocks, where the door cannot be watched from the house, that removes the easy attack points a manual up-and-over door offers.
