About Colchester
Colchester is a city in north-east Essex with a population of around 130,000, making it one of the largest settlements in the county. Situated on the River Colne roughly 50 miles from London, it occupies the site of Camulodunum - the first major city and capital of Roman Britain. The city retains visible Roman walls, a Norman castle and a well-preserved Dutch Quarter. Colchester Garrison remains an active military base, home to the 16th Air Assault Brigade.
The A12 and A120 provide strong road links to London, Harwich and Stansted Airport. Colchester North station offers direct Greater Anglia services to London Liverpool Street, while Colchester Town and Hythe stations serve the local network. Housing ranges from period homes in the town centre to modern family estates on the outskirts, many with driveways and garages suited to roller door installations.
