About Witham
Witham is a town in the Braintree district of Essex, situated on the old Roman road between Chelmsford and Colchester, around 30 miles north-east of London. The town has a population of approximately 27,000 and is centred on a mainly linear high street with two shopping precincts. The River Brain runs through the town before joining the River Blackwater on the outskirts. Witham has a mix of independent shops, cafes and supermarkets serving the local community.
Witham railway station is one of the busiest in the region, with direct services to London Liverpool Street making it a popular commuter town. The A12 dual carriageway passes close by, providing fast road access to Chelmsford, Colchester and beyond. Housing in the area ranges from older properties in the town centre to post-war estates and modern developments, many with private driveways and garages suited to roller door installations.
