About Halstead
Halstead is a small market town in the Braintree district of Essex, set along the River Colne with a population of around 13,500. It lies roughly 6 miles north-east of Braintree and 12 miles north-west of Colchester, surrounded by open countryside. The town centre features a steep high street leading down to the historic Townsford Mill, which spans the river and now houses an antiques centre. Halstead Public Gardens, established in 1900, have won multiple Britain in Bloom awards.
Road connections via the A131 link Halstead to Braintree and Chelmsford to the south and Sudbury to the north. Broaks Wood on the edge of town offers popular walking routes managed by the Forestry Commission. Housing is a mix of period cottages in the town centre, Victorian terraces and modern family estates on the outskirts, many with driveways and garages well suited to roller door installations.
