What Rochford Garages Are Usually Like
Rochford splits neatly in two for a garage door fitter. The historic core has narrow lanes and very little
off-street parking, so what exists there tends to be an older outbuilding or a garage squeezed in behind the
house. Everything else is the estate ring, built from the 1950s onward, where nearly every house has a garage:
standard single width, some integral to the house, some sitting in short terraced runs shared with the
neighbours. Those openings are 55mm territory, and the change people mention first is getting the front of the
drive back.
The airport next door does shift the brief slightly. Nobody can make the outside of a garage quieter, and we
will not put a number on it, but two things are honest and useful. A foam-filled insulated curtain damps sound
at the opening better than a single skin steel door. And a motor that starts and stops smoothly is worth having
when you are opening up early and the rest of the street is still asleep.
Colour is the other local decision. Inside the conservation area around the market square, and near the listed
buildings in the old centre, a softer colour or a woodgrain finish usually sits better than a bright modern one,
and it is worth a check with Rochford District Council before you order. Our guide to
choosing roller garage door colours runs through the
options, and anything other than white adds a flat £100 inc VAT.
